וַיֹּאמֶר֩ דָּוִ֨ד לַאֲנָשָׁ֜יו חִגְר֣וּ ׀ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־חַרְבּ֗וֹ וַֽיַּחְגְּרוּ֙ אִ֣ישׁ אֶת־חַרְבּ֔וֹ וַיַּחְגֹּ֥ר גַּם־דָּוִ֖ד אֶת־חַרְבּ֑וֹ וַֽיַּעֲל֣וּ ׀ אַחֲרֵ֣י דָוִ֗ד כְּאַרְבַּ֤ע מֵאוֹת֙ אִ֔ישׁ וּמָאתַ֖יִם יָשְׁב֥וּ עַל־הַכֵּלִֽים׃
И сказал Давид своим людям: 'Опоясай каждого человека своим мечом.'И опоясали каждого человека мечом своим; и Давид также опоясался своим мечом; и пошли после Давида около четырехсот человек; и двести жилище у багажа.

And Dovid too, girded his sword. From here [we learn] that we commence, in cases involving capital punishment, from the less significant first.11 See Maseches Sanhedrin 36a, that learns from here that the polling the judges’ opinions in cases involving capital punishment, starts with the less important judges; otherwise, they may feel intimidated and swayed by the opinions of the others.
